Good Day, CAMX

CAMX Day 2 kicks off at 8 a.m. in the Anaheim Convention Center Ballroom, Level 3 with “Good Day, CAMX,’ a discussion panel highlighting innovations and collaborative efforts enabling next-generations, aerospace-certified thermoplastic composite structures.

The panel features a collaborative project that aims to develop a high-performance thermoplastic composite rotor blade that can be manufactured at high rates. Representing difference areas of this project, panelists include Miles Arnone, CEO of Re:Build Manufacturing (Framingham, Mass., U.S.), Jay Wakenshaw, COO of Elroy Air (South San Francisco, Calif., U.S.) and Jonathan Sourkes, head of sales of area SBU at Victrex (Cleveleys, U.K.). The panel will be moderated by Marcy Offner, director, marketing communications at Composites One (Arlington Heights, Ill., U.S.).

According to Offner, “Good Day, CAMX” essentially serves as a second general session on Day 2: “How exciting is that!”

She explains that the CAMX panel idea came about because “we knew that Re:Build had been doing some work in the thermoplastics area and thought this was a product group that could have broad appeal across applications. We also liked the fact that Re:Build was focusing on collaboration as a way to move new technologies forward. This is so critical in our industry. Collaboration and information sharing will allow all markets segments to take advantage of lessons learned while moving forward in the adoption of new technologies.” 

The collaborations of Re:Build Manufacturing, Victrex and Elroy Air, with Composites One is, as she describes, “a confluence of solutions to develop unique and differentiated structural technologies.” The collaboration itself was formed over the course of the past year, Offner says, as a result of conversations to “identify collaboration opportunities based on customer requirements, program schedule, process capabilities and next-generation materials. 

The project will work to develop high-rate processes for manufacturing high-rate thermoplastic rotor blades using aero-space-qualified materials that meet current and future requirements of the emerging urban air mobility (UAM) and general aviation markets.
